Goals
What counts as a goal
Conseto decides what a goal is when you look at the numbers, from the events the script already sends. There is no goal settings page, and you do not have to change the script.
The five kinds
- Form
- A form sent from your site. The script reports it when the form is submitted, not when your site confirms it. Sign-in, account and administration forms do not count, nor does a form whose page or name looks like one. A search on the site counts as a form.
- E-mail or phone
- A click on a link that starts with
mailto:ortel:. - File download
- A click on a link to a file, such as pdf, zip, doc, xls, ppt, csv, mp3 or mp4.
- Custom event
- An event whose name starts with
conversion_, sent from your own code. - Purchase
- An event named
purchase: sent from your code, or picked up from the Google tag manager data layer whenautoTrackEcommerceis on.
Marking your own goal
Your site is the only one that knows a form went through, so it says so. Choose a name that starts with conversion_ and use letters, digits, underscore, hyphen and dot.
// After your own code knows the form went through:
Conseto.track('conversion_demo_request', { plan: 'business' });What to know
- Within one visit each kind counts once.
- Goals are counted from clean events: visits recognised as bots are left out.
- A visitor who must opt in and refuses sends no events, so there is nothing to count.
- Nothing is stored when the goal happens. Conseto works it out when you look, so a new rule applies to the whole history.
Where you see it
In the app, Data, Traffic, Goals: the visits that completed a goal, the conversion rate and the completed goals by type.
